COSTA MESA, Calif., August 5, 2020 – Accomplished insurance executive Ian Rice of Mission Viejo recently joined the Board of Directors of 43-year-old Costa Mesa-based nonprofit Project Independence that serves people with developmental disabilities in Orange County.

Rice is a benefits consultant for Alera Group of Newport Beach.  He has been a founding partner of two employee benefits firms and a tech company that helped make fantasy sports a household phrase.

Throughout his career, he has helped more than 100 small- and medium-sized businesses make data driven decisions while designing a benefits package that helps them achieve their strategic vision.  He taught public speaking at San Jose State University, where he published research and received his master’s degree in Communication Studies.

Despite being the newest member of the Board, Ian has had long-standing relationship with Project Independence and has always been committed to the mission of promoting civil rights for people with developmental disabilities through services that expand independence and choice.

“I am honored to bring both my personal and professional experience to the Board of Directors at Project Independence to help the organization serve its population as they build their lives of independence and inclusion,” said Rice. “It’s great to start weaving our paths more closely together again.”

“We are delighted to add our good friend and colleague Ian to our Board and know he will be a great asset for us as we pursue our goals in support of people with developmental disabilities,” said Project Independence CEO and President Debra Marsteller.
