Types of Support
The two primary types of supports offered by Project Independence are Individual and Group placements. Most individual placements are directly hired by the employer. Support starts at 100% as the new employee is introduced to the work environment and begins to learn a variety of job tasks. Support begins to fade as warranted by progress documented by the job coach.

Over the next several months, as the employee becomes trained and becomes more comfortable in the work environment, job coaching fades to a level not to exceed 20% in most cases. Individuals in group placements may be directly hired by the employer, or may work under a contract between Project Independence and the employer. Groups typically consist of 3-4 people with developmental disabilities who receive 100% support from a job coach.

People working in both individual and group placements receive mobility training or assistance setting up Access bus services, and are responsible for getting to and from work.
