Photo of Ron - a client with a developmental disability Our Clients - Ron
Ron moved to his own apartment almost 30 years ago, with little fan fare and much love and support. He has a developmental disability. At that sad time in history, most of his peers were relegated to institutions and congregate living. How was his experience different? A group of visionary parents and community members saw things differently. Ron could live on his own with support. Project Independence was born. Giving people a hand when they need it, helping with more complex tasks and getting out of the way when we are not needed. Ron is still living on his own and is our biggest fan.

City Hall Mail Room Employees
Project Independence supports two groups of people in Irvine City Hall Mail Room. Their jobs are varied and require a security clearance. Duties include sorting and delivering mail, processing packages, obtaining signatures for urgent documents. Their territory includes city property in Irvine and the Great Park.

Supervisors report co-workers love having the guys around and appreciate their dedication. Friendships include everyone from city planners to cops on the beat.
